Logo

I think my logo isn’t as unique as most high end brands but it is an eye catching yet simple logo, not that many companies have a logo that compare to their brand name, unlike my logo, it is a star over another star and has the word ‘vision’ written across the logo, and that resembles my brand name ‘StarVision’ unlike other brands e.g.; Nike, Nike is a brand that covers a lot of sport wear and casual wear, they also produce sports equipment but their logo is a tick/swish which has nothing to do with everyday wear or sports.
That’s why I think my logo is perfect in my eyes compared to other brands.
My logo is suitable to my audience target as stars is an object that amazes people and majority of people find them fascinating and each star has a story to it, which is why I chose a star to be brand logo, because I believe people enjoy stars  and good things come from stars. It works well with my product as it is easy to re size and looks good on whatever product you put it on.

I found the software easy as I used Photoshop which I am experienced with. The main tools I used to create my logo was the shape tool and resize tool, as the main things I had to edit for my logo, was the size and position for the stars and then adding text to the middle of the stars was easy as all I had to do was create an outline with the text tool on where I wanted to add the text and once I wrote ‘Vision’ I overlaid it on the stars and they linked the layers so that they would look out of place and that if I wanted to move or edit the logo, it would be a hustle if one layer moves by mistake and then I have to restart the change I wanted to do.

I experimented multiple times when creating my logo, and when we were introduced to the new topic, we were allowed to sketch and draw brand names and logos that we wanted to use and I had a few which is in my blogger, in the Skills Development page. The skills I should develop for the future is to probably my creativity skills, because having a creative mind can allow me to have think of new ideas which is the first step to creating an amazing logo design.

If I had more time to spend on my logo I would probably add more colour to the logo and add more details to it, such as darker colours in certain areas and maybe some shading on the edge of the logo. The only problem I overcame was to create a gif for my logo which was by far the hardest part that involved my logo as I had no experience in the past to create a gif and I found it confusing at the start, but once I saw some tutorials on YouTube I found it easier than I first expected it to be. There were a few steps that took some time, such as having to change each key frame, but apart from that the tutorial helped me and I managed to create the gif within the first lesson of us doing it.

Packaging Design

My packaging compares to a lot of other professional packaging designs as it is a very popular shape, it is a shoe box design but it holds clothing inside and a lot of other companies use this type of packaging as it protective, stylish and easy to store. Stone Island for instance uses the shoe box design to hold most of their smaller products, such as shorts, shirts and trousers but if you compare the packaging to another brand like Nike, they use it for holding shoes as once again it is easy to store as you can stack them up and they protect the product inside. The main packaging that influenced me was Stone Island, as they are a well-known brand and they had a good looking design for their package as it had simple colours and their logo on the box, but despite the simple look, it looks amazing, and that’s what caught my eye.

I had planned my package design by drawing some rough sketches on paper and once I found the right one I wanted, we they had a rough go on Adobe Illustrator. I found it fun to do because I got to use my imagination which allowed me to think of a few possibilities for my packaging. It is suitable as a lot of people who wear designer like to hang up and show off their bought item with its original packaging, and because of this collectors and people who like that, can benefit there style as they can show it off and be proud of what they have made. Using Adobe Illustrator to create my 3D image of my packaging was challenging at the start as I didn’t know how to convert shapes into 3D and customise the shading and size for each shape, but after I saw a few examples of people doing it and asking help and using the help sheet provided, it became easier for me as there was a lot of steps but they weren’t complicated to do.

For this part of my unit I don’t think I need to develop any new skills apart from my timing because everything was straight forward after I knew what to do. The only problem I faced was being stuck and unable to do the work at the start until I had help from the help sheet and my teacher.

Magazine Advert

My magazine advert compared to professional magazine adverts isn’t as good as most of them because I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the advert, as I was ill and missed the lesson where we had to do it in lesson, but I like it as it gives a Christmas theme to it and I haven’t seen any Christmas magazine advert during my research. The only message I am showing my audience is that it is a Christmas themed box which is going to be available for a short time as I made this around Christmas time.

It is appealing towards the audience as it has Christmas themed colours red, white and green which are the main colours for Christmas and Christmas is a special celebration that most people around the world celebrate, and because it is Christmas themed more people would be likely to buy it because it fits in with my celebration. I found using the software easy as it was Photoshop which I am experienced with and have used in the past. The main tools I had to use was the shape tool and (not really a tool but) hue and saturation as I had to change the colours and brightness of the lights in the background which was challenging but fun to do as I had to experiment a lot until I found the right brightness and saturation.

I would change only one thing and that would be to make the packaging by myself instead of using google and by doing that it can add my own details to the package and make it to my liking. Because I missed out the lesson where we had to do it and I rushed to complete it in time and not mess up my timing for each project. In my opinion the most successful part of the magazine print was the lights in the background as I spent a long time trying to perfect it as I think it brought life to the advert. There wasn’t any problems I had to overcome apart from the timing as I started late compared to the other students doing the same project as me.

Animated Logo

I chose the movement for my animated logo as I think it is eye catching and not a lot of high end brands have the same use of animation for their logos. It is suitable for my target audience as it isn’t inappropriate towards my audience and there is no message trying to be shown through my animation.I found the software very challenging as I never used it before and the main tools I used was the classic tween as I had to do a few simple steps but was still challenging to do it for each frame, I had only one instance of the logo on the new layer I then had to add two keyframes, for example at 1 and 30 on the timeline, then had to move my logo at frame 30, or resize it  then I had to click on the timeline part of your layer and insert a classic tween. The tween made it smooth and then changed from one keyframe to another. After all if this I had to test it, so I was told to play in Animate or the google chrome.

I would change anything as I think my animation looks amazing in my eyes.
The most successful part was when I put it on my website and after I was done with everything I viewed my website on google and my animated logo showed up and started moving the way I designed it to, that made me very happy as it was the first time I’ve done anything like that.

As I struggled at the start I went on YouTube and google to look for help, which I did find, but my teacher did provide us with a help sheet which I did find confusing at the start. Until my teacher went through it with me.

Sound Experiments

The only radio advert I researched was a Tesco radio advert, as I was listening to the radio on my way to school and it was advertised on the radio station I was listening to. My radio advert compares to a few adverts because I included promos and offers and a competition which can catch the listener’s attention and my brand. It is suitable for my audience as I made it straight forward and added a promo which allows them to save money and in for a chance to win free money. One message I wanted my audience to hear was the promo, which was buy 1 get 1 free which will catch their attention and from there they can tell their friends about it which can then promote my brand and product.

The software I used to make my radio advert was easy to use and didn’t take long as I have used it before and there isn’t much I had to do apart from cutting a few seconds away from the audio clip and either reducing or increasing the volume of the audio, the only tools I had to use was the ‘cut’ tool and ‘audio grain’ tool. I would improve it by going to a quiet studio, as I was in an empty room which had an echo which is noticeable in the final radio advert. The most successful part of the advert was the start as I had multiple sounds used at the start which I think go really well together. The only problem I came across was that the audio files were louder than anticipated to which I then had to reduce the volume using the ‘audio grain’ tool.

Website Design

My website meets the needs that were needed, I experimented a little at the start, but then I had to get serious to which I then started with my text, to which I used the text tool and had to enter a code which allowed me to type in a certain area on my web page and from there I wrote what I wanted and then changed the font, size and position. I also changed the background of my page to the colour purple and for the text, the text is black and the background for the text is white. I chose these colours as I think they look well together. The way my website functions, is that it has tabs on the top left which are interactive, meaning when clicked it brings you to another page that displays information on my brand. The layout I chose for my website came out successful as I was able to write where I wanted and got to add images when I desired and because of the page layout I chose, I looks really good and goes well with everything within the website.

The main thing that worked really well for me was the gif logo in the middle of the main display screen. As it advertises my logo and looks good whilst doing that. I also think the change between the pages went successful as I didn’t know how to do it but with the help from another student, he taught me how to and it looks amazing and professional. If I had more time to work on my website I probably would of made more products with my logo on them using Photoshop and adding them around my website and add more tabs/pages to show off my brand and products. I used Adobe Dreamweaver to create the website itself as we had teachers who were experienced with the software and if there was any help needed they most likely knew what to do in that situation. I also used Photoshop to create my products with my logo on them, I found plain hoodies on google images which were copyright free and then used Photoshop to edit and add my logo onto it to make it look professional. For Dreamweaver there were no specific tools needed for the website as it was mainly coding and the html codes were at the bottom of the screen.

For this part of my unit I don’t think I need to develop any new skills apart from my timing because everything was straight forward after I knew what to do. I also need to develop my coding skills as I found it interesting when it came to changing certain things and details on my web page and if I was to learn more about it I think my website would be outstanding.

The only web page I looked at was,  https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=na_na_ppc-s_na_na_na_DOM_GOO-UK-BR-BR-SELFRIDGES-EXA&cm_mmc=PPC-_-GoogleBr-_-brand-_-selfridges&POR=Y&gclid=CjwKCAiA4Y7yBRB8EiwADV1hacI4M5UqLHTEU0TD6ocnuLyu4C4j7cEro6mwjgMN0as0uB1EGmhh3hoCouMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds,  the main thing that influenced me was the hoodie section of the website as my main product I am selling are hoodies, and I like how they had 2 viewing options on the website where there was a still image but when you hover your mouse over the images, it changes the image completely which I found very fascinating and I asked around if it was possible for me to do that but because this was the first time I had created the website, the coding for that was far too complicated and out of my skill range.
I have experimented by using a practice web page where I played around a bit and tried to get use to the programme and see how certain tools and commands can change the slightest things on my web page. The only problem I faced was when I first added my gif logo onto the web page and it made it impossible to work as it was constantly crashing, freezing and lagging. The way I had to overcome this was to change the name of the image file as the programme wouldn’t recognise it and remove it, and then once I was done with everything I changed the image file name back to its original name and that’s how I overcame my only problem with my web page.
TV Advert

My final piece is my TV Advert which was to create an advert about the Art Department in Stanmore College. Each student was resigned a role and subject to create an advert about. I had to do my own research and watch a few adverts which then game me a few ideas about my ad. The strengths I had towards this project is my editing and filming skills which I have developed in the past.

I had to make a script and storyboard plan on what I was going to say and do. Which I displayed on my planning section of my blog.  I created them using word and the notes app on my phone. After we discussed about the planning and questions to ask, we went straight to filming the art department. We started off filming students working. We then had to get consent of the students and teachers we wanted to interview, which we did get and from there we started our interview and asked questions based on the art department and the work experience.

What only thing that messed up during this unit was when we had to arrange the interviews for teach student and teacher which was a frustrating as it was time consuming to find the perfect time for them. We then had ask the students when they were free and interviewed them.  If I had more time to work on my project and had to repeat it, I would take the opportunity because I feel like I could have got more interviews and got more options on what different students and teachers views on the course and the entirety of the art department.
